- A geologist friend told me that the colors in the rocks and sediment layers on the Colorado Plateau filter in with underground water movement after the layer is created. I'm fine with that, but am still amazed at the unusual current and odd mix of chemicals that must have occurred to create the bizarre patterns and colors seen in the badland formations of the Chinle layer.
