Cactus Buds
The Sonoran desert is so alive. The dryness and heat can feel strangulating at times, but the flora seems to take it in stride. Even after months of no rain, the prickly pear cacti dutifully put on their spring show. The pads are covered in buds, which, close up, are every bit as beautiful as the flowers themselves. But it's a beauty that comes with built in protection. Only bees and butterflies are allowed to get really close.
