Figure 12--Image shows the effect of adding a 72-pixel Guassian blur to the Light Lights luminosity layer mask on the "Multiply" blending-mode adjustment layer. Mouse rollover is the same layer without the blur. The Gaussian blur significantly restores detail definition, especially in the lighter tones. Some light tones, like the whites in the rock, are still a bit too gray. Also, the tops of the background rocks have been darkened a little as a result of the blurred mask "leaking" the Multiply blending mode darkening effect into these areas.
