Despite its location in the Sonoran Desert, Sabino Canyon, which drains runoff from the Catalina Mountains, has as relatively predictable and persistent water supply. This creates a riparian corridor where thirstier deciduous trees and shrubs can flourish. As they prepare to drop their leaves for the relatively short winter, a ribbon of yellow extends along the creek.
