Mesa Overlook
An evening drive to a nearby mesa provided a host of interesting elements for this picture taken at sunset. The large foreground rock almost seems to float as its height on the mesa top allows it to be lit from below. Side-lighting creates interesting textures in the foreground and also highlights the spires in the valley. The distant horizon is filled with the remnants of a passing storm and the familiar outline of Navajo Mountain. Working to compose patterns and elements into the frame is the constant task of nature photography. There was a fortunate abundance to work with this evening.
