Morrison Formation
The Morrison formation is a geological stratum laid down around 150 million years ago. It's essentially fine sediments that sank to the bottom of drainage basins. Even today, its muddy character is evident in the way it adheres to hiking boots when it gets wet. Outcrops of this layer are found in many inland western states and several dinosaur fossils have been unearthed from it.
